I left the big brokerage firms in 2001 to become an independent investment advisor - fiduciary. Since 2001 I have been fee only, no commissions. If you make money I will make more money, if you lose money I will make less money. My goal is to outperform the stock market long term without ever having a losing year.

Besides government and religious organizations, Blackstone is the largest owner of commercial real estate in the world. I use a couple of Blackstone limited partnerships that have impressive returns over the years.
I also have hedge funds, that have a history of making money in both Bull and Bear markets. The SEC requires hedge fund investors to be a qualified investor. My first hedge fund investment was a hedge fund with a strategy focused on long/short equity, bonds, commodities, and currencies. The fund has a 35 year track record that only has one losing year. They lost 4% in 2008. Their annualized return over the past 35 years is over 12%.
